Gene Ernst

Long time Kansas-Paraguay member Gene Ernst died on September 5, 2013.  Gene was an architecture professor at Kansas State University from 1967 until he retired in 1992.   Gene was also an artist.  He was a member of the Kansas Watercolor Society as well as the Manhattan Arts Center Watercolor Studio.  It was as an artist that he made one of his important contributions to Kansas-Paraguay Partners. With support from Partners of the Americas he traveled to Paraguay and produced watercolor images from the Jesuit Missions.  Upon his return to Kansas he produced sets of notecards that many of us continue to use.  Here are a couple of his images.  The one in color is of the Museo Casa de Indios which is a museum of wood carvings of saints that date back to the Jesuits and was created and supported by Kanas-Paraguay member Marianna Beach.  It is in Santa Maria de Fe and is worth the trip.
